Frames in the exact aspect ratio
Plenty of printable storyboard templates call their frames 16:9 when the boxes are really closer to 1.85:1, so a sketch that fits on paper is cropped on screen. Here every frame is drawn in the ratio you choose, and the ratio is printed above it. Pick 16:9, 2.39:1, 1.85:1, 4:3, 1:1, 4:5 or 9:16, or type your own from 1:4 to 4:1.

The biggest frames the page allows
Small boxes are hard to draw in. The layout tries portrait and landscape and every grid for your panel count, then keeps the one with the largest frames. The settings show the exact frame size in inches and millimeters, so you know what you are drawing on before you print.

Type your notes, or print blank lines
Choose the fields under each frame: shot size, angle, movement, duration, transition, action, dialogue and sound, notes, or an AI prompt. Type into them and the text prints as sharp, real text; leave them empty and you get ruled lines for a pencil. Roomy lines leave space for handwriting, and a warning appears before any text is cut.

From storyboard to AI video
Each panel has two shortcuts. Create this frame opens our Text to Image generator with the shot's prompt and the closest ratio it offers. Once a panel has a picture, Animate this frame sends it to Image to Video with the same prompt. The storyboard template itself stays free; only generating uses credits.

Prints true to size
Pages use the exact paper size, so Letter is 8.5 × 11 in and A4 is 210 × 297 mm, with a 0.5 in margin that home printers can reach. The PDF asks your printer for Actual size, and every page carries a 1 inch and a 25 mm bar you can measure to confirm nothing was shrunk.

Guide: how to use a storyboard template
What to write in each panel, which frame to pick and how to print it right.
What is a storyboard template?
A storyboard is a series of drawings that shows a video shot by shot, in the order the audience will see it. A storyboard template is the empty sheet you draw on: a grid of frames in the shape of the final video, with space under each frame for notes about the shot.
Boards let a whole team see the film before anyone films it. You find missing shots, awkward cuts and impossible camera moves on paper, where they cost nothing to fix. Stick figures are fine: the point is to make each shot clear, not pretty.
What to write under each frame
Film schools teach a short list: the shot number, the shot size, a note on the action and the sound. Add the camera movement, the angle and the transition when they matter, and a duration when timing is tight, as in ads and short social videos.
Number shots in the order they appear. When a scene needs a new shot between two others, crews usually add a letter, so shot 12 is followed by 12A and 12B, and the letters I and O are skipped because they look like numbers. Set the first shot number in the tool to continue a board across several files.
Shot sizes and camera moves
Shot size says how much of the subject fills the frame. An extreme wide shot shows a building, a landscape or a crowd; a wide or long shot shows a whole person; a medium close-up shows a person from the chest up; a close-up fills the frame with a face; an extreme close-up shows a detail such as an eye or a hand.
Movement says what the camera does. A pan turns the camera left or right, a tilt swivels it up or down, a tracking or dolly shot moves the camera through space, a crane lifts it into the air, and handheld means the operator carries it. Between shots, a cut is instant, a dissolve blends one image into the next and a fade goes to or from black.

Choose the aspect ratio before you draw
Draw in the shape you will deliver. A 16:9 storyboard template suits YouTube, TV and most web video; use 1.85:1 or 2.39:1 for a cinematic widescreen look; 9:16 for TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts; and 1:1 or 4:5 for feed posts. A vertical storyboard template with true 9:16 frames keeps faces and text where a phone screen will show them.
If one video will be posted in several shapes, board the main version first and mark what must stay in the center. Our free Aspect Ratio Calculator shows the exact crop between shapes, for example from 16:9 to 9:16.
AI video works best one short shot at a time, so a storyboard is the natural plan for it. Treat every panel as one generation: one subject, one action and one camera move, usually lasting a few seconds.
Use the AI prompt field to describe what the model should draw, and keep the same words for the same character and place in every panel so the shots match.
Create a reference image of the main character or product first, then reuse it.
Change one thing per shot: the angle, the action or the camera move.
Write the shot size and movement into the prompt, such as close-up, slow push in.
Add titles and captions in your editor rather than asking the model to draw text.
For vertical video, keep faces and key objects away from the bottom and the right edge, where apps show captions and buttons.

Print your storyboard template at the right size
Pick the paper that is in your printer: US Letter in North America and A4 almost everywhere else. A storyboard template PDF made for the wrong paper gets scaled, and scaling changes the frame size and the margins.
In the print dialog choose Actual size or 100%, not Fit to page. Then measure the 1 inch bar at the bottom of the page. If it is shorter, the printer shrank the page. The standard 0.5 in margin keeps every line inside the area most home printers can reach, and the thin gray lines use very little ink.
